Edward Walter Furlong was born in Glendale, California on August 2, 1977. He is the son of Eleanor Torres and an unknown father. His mother had problems supporting them and eventually gave up custody to Sean and Nancy Furlong (his aunt and uncle). His education includes Elliot Junior High School, Glendale, California and South Pasadena Junior High School, Pasadena, California. He has brown hair, brown eyes and is 5'7" tall.

He was discovered by a casting director, Mali Finn, while hanging out at the Boys Club of Pasadena. He was cast as John Conner in Terminator 2:Judgement Day. His role gave him tremedous exposure and with his new fame, his mother reentered his life and wanted her son back. The case went to court, and the court upheld Sean and Nancy's custody. Edward later (at 16) went to court to be declared legally emancipated.

He began to star in independent films starring opposite Jeff Bridges in American Heart (1992), Home Of Our Own, A (1993) with Kathy Bates, Little Odessa (1994) with Tim Roth, Grass Harp, The (1995) with Walter Matthau. He starred in the comedy Pecker (1998) and opposite Edward Norton in American History X (1998). More recently, Furlong has been opposite Willem Dafoe in the prison drama Animal Factory (2000).

Edward was in the news when he was arrested for public intoxication at a Kentucky grocery store (September 17, 2004). Furlong apparently went to the store and began to pull lobsters out of the water tanks. The PETA and animal rights activist was in town shooting a movie at the time of his arrest.
