Education International is the world-wide federation of teaching and education trade unions.
A total of some 311 national teaching trade unions in 159 countries are affiliated to the organisation, representing a total of around 25 million members making it the world's largest Global Union Federation. (For a list of affiliated membes see http://www.ei-ie.org/main/english/index.html.)
It is responsible in conjuction with UNESCO for sponsoring World Teachers’ Day, which this year is on 5 October 2002 with the theme "Teachers Create Dialogue Every Day", which sounds very worthy.
