Edu-Core is a style of music that incorporates educational content into hardcore, Heavy Metal or Punk - genres that have long been considered bereft of intellectual aspirations. Coined by the literacy-metal Sci-Fi band BloodHag, the term could easily be applied to such artists as KRS-1 or specific songs by artists, such as "Flannery O'Connor" by Killdozer. As such it can be considered a sub-genre of edutainment as personified by the above mentioned KRS-1. While broad as a concept, Edu-Core should be distinguished from political/activist music such as that of the Clash or Skinny Puppy in that it provides a basis for information with less of a polemic bent.
