Cool 70s funk band from Chicago, with jazz pedigrees carefully hidden. "Shining Star", among many, was a masterpiece; Philip Bailey's world-class falsetto launched mucho ballads - their meal ticket now on the Rock Senior Tour. But the excess remains etched in memory - they looked a wee bit swish in their silly, glitzy, faux-Egyptian funk-band togs and "I-ain't-Stagger-Lee" poses. And the hair! In the 80s they (especially Maurice!) found the Hair Club for Men. And a half-decent wardrobe.
