King of Kent 685-686
Eadric, as the son of Ecgbert who had ruled the people of Kent before his death in the year 673, believed that it was he that should be considered the rightful heir to the kingdom rather than his uncle Hlothere. Thus he went to Aethelwalh the king of the neighbouring kingdom of the South Saxons, and sought his help. Together they raised and army against Hlothere which defeated him in battle and dealt him the wound that brought about his death in the year 685.
Hence Eadric became king but he was not destined to rule for long, as the very next year, as the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle relates, came Caedwalla and Mull of the West Saxons who spread devastation throughout the land and killed Eadric in battle.
