A Poem in the Before Choice Disturbs collection

Driving

Push me into the canyon night
And rev the engine hard.
The corn rows become living walls,
Blurring darkness make them solid.

Drive the car down the center line,
Until we're an not an accident
Waiting to happen, But unfolding now.
Our fate divided into the small moments
Of an accelerated push.

Rushing past the unlit farmhouses
and stealth corn silos,
Over iron bridges and backroads
We feel ourselves expand.

Yeah, push me into the canyon night,
And rev the engine hard,
Where we become the silent walls--
And blurring darkness makes us solid.
