A 1978 Terrence Malick film set in pre-WWI Texas. The cinematography, done by Nestor Almendros and Haskell Wexler, is the best that I've seen - sharp and beautiful, with an amber filter that perfectly captures the Texas landscape. The story follows Bill (Gere), his lover Abby, and Abby's young sister Linda (the narrator), from Chicago to Texas, where they get work as farmhands for a terminally ill farmer (Sam Shepard). Linda tries to make sense of the love triangle that develops between her sister, Bill, and the farmer.
