The cultural center of Somerville, Massachusetts, and home of the Someday Cafe, Redbones, The Burren, the Joshua Tree, and Johnny D's among others.

Situated on the Red Line, between Alewife and Porter Square, Davis Square is quickly becoming one of the hippest places in the Boston area.

Davis is a haven for bicyclists since the rectilinear park comes out at the Davis Square MBTA station and goes all the way out to Alewife where it meets the Minuteman Bike Trail and goes all the way out to Lexington.

In 1997 Utne Reader rated Davis Square 14th of the 15 hippest places to live in the U.S. and Canada, based on economic considerations and opinions of "alternative press editors, gallery owners, community organizers, coffee shop clerks, music promoters, art critics, gay activists, club goers, urban planners, cyber-journalists, and advertising honchoes, as well as assorted idlers and lingerers".

The Lower Garden District in New Orleans and the Inner Mission in San Francisco topped the list.
