Dave Lebling is best known as one of the fathers of interactive fiction (aka text adventures). He co-founded Infocom in 1979, and worked there until 1989.

With Infocom, he authored:

Lebling also co-authored several games at Infocom with Marc Blank:

After being born in DC, Lebling's family moved to Maryland, where he lived until he moved to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Infocom was founded by Lebling and other members of MIT's Dynamic Modelling Group in the summer 1979. His co-founders were Tim Anderson, Joel Berez, Marc Blank, Mike Broos, Scott Cutler, Stu Galley, J. C. R. Licklider, Chris Reeve, and Al Vezza. Infocom's best-known game, Zork, had actually been written on a mainframe two years prior to this, by Lebling and Blank.

With fellow Infocomer Steve Meretzky, Lebling was the first person to be admitted to the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America for writing interactive fiction.

Since leaving Infocom, Lebling has worked for AVID Technology, Inc, ucentric (as of 1999), and perhaps elsewhere.
