Athletic director at Georgia Tech since 1997. Previously AD at Virginia Tech for most of the 1990s.

Braine's background is in football coaching, but like all ADs, his job is only peripherally about athletics -- it mostly focuses on money. Braine made his name nationally by working with VT football coach Frank Beamer to build that program into national prominence. One strategy they used, to the current consternation of VT fans, was "scheduling for success." His other main accomplishments were getting VT into the Big East for football, and managing to salvage an Atlantic 10 berth when the Metro Conference kicked VT and VCU out on the way to becoming Conference USA.
