NBA basketball player who went from
high school to the pros in 1975. He was drafted in the first round by
Philadelphia. He was regarded as something of an
underachiever during his NBA career.
A rather flamboyant player, Dawkins called himself "Chocolate Thunder." He was the first NBA player to shatter a backboard, a feat which he performed twice in 3 weeks time. Famous for naming his dunks, when Dawkins shattered a backboard over Bill Robinzine, he called it the "Chocolate Thunder Flying, Robinzine Crying, Teeth Shaking, Glass Breaking, Rump Roasting, Bun Toasting, Slam Bam Here I Am Jam."
generic-man pointed out to me that Dawkins also claimed to be from "Planet Lovetron". Orange Julius added a Dawkins quote:
"Lovetron was a planet in my mind one million-billion light years from here, that you couldn't go to unless I took you."
Something else I remember: Dawkins was born January 11, 1957. An interviewer once asked him
I "When's your birthday?"
DD "January 11."
I "What Year?"
DD "Every Year."
Another asked him what type of church he attended. His reply: "Red Brick."
