Δαιδαλιων

The brother of Ceryx and the son of Lucifer, the Morning Star (Eosphorus). A fierce man who loved hunting and fighting, he made many conquests. He had a daughter called Chione, a girl of great beauty, who attracted many suitors. One day Hermes and Apollo saw her as they were passing through her neighbourhood, and they both fell in love with her. She gave them two children from this encounter. The one by Hermes was called AUTOLYCUS and the one by Apollo became the musician Philammon. But Chione overstepped the mark. She had the audacity to set her beauty above that of Artemis, who killed her with an arrow. Daedalion's grief was so intense that Apollo transformed him into a sparrow-hawk, a bird which retained the violent instincts he had had as a man.
