First, Cyberdyne Systems created the computer system SkyNet to control what NORAD has done best -- nuclear weapons, stealth bomber work, and so on. The Department of Defense in the United States would be so proud of having this kind of comptuer system to do everything... However, SkyNet became self-aware in the year 1997, and decided to nuke the heck out of Russia. Russia fought back, and I guess SkyNet decided to root out humans to stop the problem of people trying to attack it. The idea of killing humans one-by-one is where the terminators came in...

I did a Google search and found out that there are several real companies that call themselves Cyberdyne Systems, among them an ISP in Eugene, Oregon, and several others that have no relationship with Terminators, fictional or otherwise. One of these companies has the web address http://cyberdyne.ca is in the prosaic business of selling computer parts and custom computer systems to the local folks in Niagara Falls on the Canadian side, but distinguishes itself by having a logo similar to the logo of the fictional Cyberdyne Systems made famous in Terminator 2.

I do suspect that the name of this mom and pop computer store was inspired by the movie. The website mentions that the store has been in business for over 10 years, which would put its founding date right around the time when Terminator 2 was released.
