Generally one can remember a cubbyhole from their pre-school, kindergarten and grade school days. It was that big box with rows and columns of thin plywood creating a bunch of little containers in which you put your boots on snowy days. Sometimes teachers were cruel and made you take off your shoes even though they're not dirty, and you had to fend for yourself in nothing but socks.
