1/2 cup unsalted butter -- softened
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon dark molasses
1 cup sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups cornflakes
3/4 cup pecans -- coarsely chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly butter the sides and bottom of a 13x9" baking pan.

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugars. Beat in the egg and mix well. Add the vanilla and the molasses.

Sift the flour, the baking powder and salt. Combine the flour mixture with the cornflakes. Work the flour mixture into the batter, a cup at a time, mixing gently but well after each addition. Stir in the pecans.

Turn the batter into the prepared pan and smooth with the back of a spoon.

Bake for 15 min. or until the top of the cake is firm to the touch and golden brown. Remove from oven. Allow to cool, then cut it into 2" bars.
