Top-selling French champagne made by Champagne Louis Roederer.

The champagne was first produced in 1876, under the special request of Czar Alexander II, and presented in crystal bottles (hence the name). It remained an exclusive cuvée to the Russian Court until after World War II, when sale to the general public began.

Today, Cristal takes its place amongst Veuve Clicquot, Perrier Jouet Fleur de France, and Dom Perignon as a first-class champagne. Production occurs on five vinyards (including one in Anderson Valley, California). Cost per bottle commonly runs $180-500 USD.
