Cowes is a small Victorian town on the Isle of Wight, off the southern English coast. It's a famous yachting centre, where national and international sailing events take place yearly from April to October. Cowes Week, the most well-known of these events, is a regatta for large yachts which has been held on the second week of August every year since the early 1800s, and was established by the Royal Yacht Squadron (founded in 1815), the first club to organise serious yacht racing in the UK. Other yachting events associated with Cowes include the Fastnet race and the Americas Cup.
