Correspondances
by Charles Baudelaire
found in his chef d'oeuvre, Les Fleurs du Mal
Translation by e2's own kaytay

Nature is a temple where lively pillars
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles ;
At times let confused speech leave;
The man passes there across forests of symbols
Qui l'observent avec des regards familiers.
Who observes him with familiar glances.

Like long echos which merge from afar
Dans une ténébreuse et profonde unité,
In a dark and deep unity,
Vast like the night and like the clarity,
The perfumes, the colors and the sounds are answered.

It is the fresh perfumes like the flesh of children,
Sweet like oboes, green like meadows,
-Et d'autres corrompus, riches et triomphants,
-And the other corrupt people, rich and triomphant,

Ayant l'expansion des choses infinies,
Having enlightenment by infinite things,
Like amber, musk, benzoin and incense,
Which sing the transports of the spirit and the senses.
