British, children's television programme from the seventies, used marionettes in a very Gerry Anderson way. The plot line, as bizarre as any I think, involved an army laying siege to a castle, throwing boulders at it and so on, but, at four o'clock every day, the two sides would sit down and have tea. Unless it was a very satirical side-swipe at the British, I have no idea what the point of it was.
