(Or Hayashi Chushiro, according to the Japanese convention of listing surname first.)

Japanese astrophysicist specialising in stellar evolution and structure. Born 1920.

In the 1950s, Hayashi elaborated on George Gamow's new Big Bang theory, studying nuclear processes in the early universe. He calculated the proportion of hydrogen to helium in the present-day universe, getting results that were later found to correspond with observational data.
