Christopher Gist (c1706-1759) was a frontiersman and the first Englishman to map the Ohio River Valley. Gist also explored the wilds of Kentucky 18 years before Daniel Boone's expedition. Gist fought in the French and Indian War, during which he was said to have twice saved the life of a young George Washington.
