Somewhat cryptic DJ terminology for a crossfader. The term is derived from the Greek word khiasmos which means 'mixed arrangement'. A chiastic slide or crossfader is an essential element of a DJ mixer. A DJ can use it in a controlled manner to make transitions between records after first synchronizing the groove. Turntablists use the chiastic slide in a more active manner to perform scratching effects.
