Among the myriad of non-native animals that can be found on Catalina Island, the strangest perhaps is the buffalo. Brought in by the movie industry many years ago, they were simply left there. While the Catalina Island Conservancy has tried to eradicate most other non-native animals, the buffalo population has been kept in check by exporting excess animals. Today, they can be seen throughout the island.
