CSMA - Carrier Sense Media Access. Refers to the packet transfer method used in Ethernet. The acronym is usually followed by a /CD which is the acronym for Collision Detection which allows ethernet packets to be retransmitted if a collision occurs. There is also a /CA Collision Avoidance that is used in Appletalk networks.
