But Caranthir, who loved not the sons of Finarfin, and was the harshest of the brothers and the most quick to anger, cried aloud: 'Yea more! Caranthir was the fourth of the sons of Fëanor and quickly swore the Oath along with his brothers in Tirion. After the Noldor's return to Middle-Earth he settle in Thargelion, a land between the river Gelion and the Blue Mountains, and grew prosperous from trade with the adjacent dwarves.

When Thargelion was destroyed during the Dagor Bragollach, Caranthir went to join his brothers Amrod and Amras. He was slain along with his brothers by Dior when they tried to recover the Silmarils at Menegroth.

He was the harshest of the Sons of Fëanor and the quickest to arms. His complexion was very dark
