The CCBBA Karate Curriculum 1st Degree Brown Belt to 2nd Degree Brown Belt

The second degree brown belt is a milestone in the student's training.  The goal of achieving a black belt is in sight at last and only time stands in the way of the student's achieving it.  The prospects for a second degree brown belt are excellent, but the difficulties ahead can seem very formidable.  Only a single new form is added to the curriculum at this point, but the student is responsible for everything learned to date, and the breath and depth of this knowledge can be overwhelming.  Many students stall in their progress en route to the second degree brown belt, some even abandon their studies at this point, unable to make the commitment needed to perfect their skills.  The Karate master must harden themselves against the temptation to give their first degree brown belts "a break," and lower their standards at this critical juncture.  This is a moment of intense personal growth for the student, where they must find the strength and resolve to take responsibility for their own progress.  What remains to be learned must come largely from within.
