Bruce And Terry were a duo recording surf knockoffs in the early 60s, some surprisingly good. Their biggest hit, Hey Little Cobra, was recorded as The Rip Chords, but they also recorded under their own name and as The Rogues. Their version of Help Me, Rhonda is actually better than the
Beach Boys original.
Bruce Johnston went on to join the Beach Boys, replacing Brian Wilson on the road and contributing songs like Disney Girls and Deirdre . He also wrote I Write The Songs for Barry Manilow. He is currently one of only two 'real' Beach Boys in the current touring line-up, the other being Mike Love
Terry Melcher (Doris Day's son) went on to produce The Byrds' first two albums.
Bruce and Terry have collaborated occasionally over the years - Melcher co-wrote ( with Mike Love, Scott Mackenzie and The Mamas And The Papas' John Philips) the Beach Boys' number one single Kokomo, and co-wrote/produced much of the last two Beach Boys albums.
