lough amid
moorland against
Hadrian's Wall. There is a
legend that says in the twelfth century a
Dane called
Oswald hid a
treasure in the lough, casting a
spell on in to prevent its being removed except by
twin horses, twin
oxen, twin boys, and a
chain forged by a seventh-generation
blacksmith.
Another legend, having located King Arthur's court at Carlisle, as some do, says that it is here that Arthur received and returned Excalibur.
The lough measures 27 ha, and it a region around it are being sold to the National Trust with the unusual condition that the current owners may continue to look for the treasure.
