Brian Doyle-Murray is a gravelly-voiced, hilarious character actor and writer who was born on October 31, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He has three brothers, all of them actors as well: Bill Murray, John Murray, and Joel Murray. Factoid: Doyle is his grandmother's maiden name; he probably goes by Brian Doyle-Murray because there was another Brian Murray in the Screen Actor's Guild (the same thing happened to David Pierce, or David Hyde Pierce). On August 28, 2000 he married his present wife Tina Stauffer.

Brian has mostly worked in comedy, either as an actor or a writer. He began his performing career at Chicago's Second City comedy troupe. Ironically, Brian is the one who pulled some strings and got his younger brother Bill into Second City. Then Bill Murray became a star while Brian was relegated to writing and character acting. Theatrical credits to his name are with the Organic Theater of Chicago and the Boston Shakespeare Company.

In the late 1970’s, Brian Doyle-Murray was a writer for Saturday Night Live in its early years and even acted in the show doing skits and the famed “Weekend Update”, a spot that would later catapult Dennis Miller into fame.

In 1980, Brian Doyle-Murray co-wrote some movie called "Caddyshack," (1980) supposedly one of the greatest comedies ever or something. Throughout the 1980’s Brian had memorable supporting roles in such films as “Modern Problems” (1981) and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” (1989). He was featured along with brother Bill Murray as the doleful mayor of Punxsutawney in the timeless comedy "Groundhog Day."

In 1991 he joined the cast of Get A Life! for its second and final season as Gus Borden, a retired cop who takes in the lead character, Chris Peterson (played by Chris Elliott when he moves out of his parents' house. The show almost becomes a bizarre remake of The Odd Couple as the last handful of episodes centers solely on Murray's and Elliott's interaction with each other. Brian also became a regular on the 1991 sitcom Good Sports. Besides those stints, though, Brian Doyle-Murray's television career have mostly entailed guest starring roles. Many of these roles has been playing the character "Mr. Savitsky" for a sitcom calledYes, Dear, which he began doing in 2002.
