The beacons on the skyline illuminate the hill of humanity
flash and yet stay still, testifying to their duality
just like all of us, static and yet ever-changing
simple and yet infinitely complex

Cars whiz by, singular and alone
And light up the entire freeway in a festival of lights
One, then another, and yet another
Both individual and collective

The more I drink, the more I see
that I am poisoned but alive,
dying but lively,
another piece of this land of contradictions
