In baseball, a catch-all term for any pitch that curves on its way to the plate, as opposed to the fastball and the changeup, which are relatively straight pitches. "Breaking ball" is the term announcers use when they are not sure what kind of pitch was thrown, but know it wasn't a fastball or changeup. The most common types of breaking balls are the curveball and the slider.
