The Braunvieh, which originated in Switzerland, has a long and (moderately) interesting history. Bred for centuries by monasteries and ranchers, the breed's superlative beef yield made it very popular. It soon spread across Europe, and is now common in America as well.

The primary advantage of this tough, large breed is its "carcass quality grade," which denotes the amount and the caliber of meat an average cow posesses. They can also acclimate themselves to a decent variety of environments.

This node is part of Tem42's list of cattle breeds, entitled, simply, cattle.
