Βουφαγος

An Arcadian hero whose name literally means 'the eater of oxen'; the son of Iapetus and Thornax. During the war against Augias, he and Promne, his wife, sheltered Iphicles who had been wounded (see Heracles). Bouphagus cared for Iapetus until his death, after which he became a recluse. Later, he was killed by Artemis who was annoyed by his importunate love when he pursued her on Mount Pholoe in Arcadia.
