Born July 26, 1922 as William Blake McEdwards in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Blake Edwards was a prolific film director, writer, and producer. The 1958-1961 TV series Peter Gunn is responsible for his initial fame, although his most famous works are the series of Pink Panther movies. Other directing credits include Breakfast at Tiffany's, Days of Wine and Roses and Victor/Victoria.


Withnail adds that Blake Edwards is also responsible for the movie 10 and was married to Julie Andrews.


In 2004 Edwards was awarded an honorary Oscar for "extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement." He died on December 16, 2010.
