The baseball diamond refers to the appearance created by the 90 degree angles between each of the three bases and home. While the phrase references the whole of the field, the diamond literally refers to the area confined by the bases, also commonly called the infield. In a standard field, the bases are situated 90 feet from each other. In little league, the base paths are shorter, anywhere from 50 feet right up to 90 feet depending on the ages of the players.
