Refering to Andreas Baader and Ulrike Meinhof the founding members of the Baader Meinhof gang, also known later as the Red Army Faction, who operated throughout Germany through the late 1960s & early 1970s. Meinhof did indeed hang herself in prison, arrested in Hanover after being turned in by the owner of an apartment she was staying at while fleeing police.
Also, not coincidentally, Baader Meinhof refers to a single album side project by founder and leader of the Auteurs, Luke Haines, who, obsessed as he is with crime, violence and class struggle released the album to little or no notice. Haines then went on to record under the name Black Box Recorder in 1998, with England Made Me, and now in 2000 The Facts of Life.
