30th Emperor of Rome (270 - 275 A.D.).
Aurelian was chosen by Claudius II to succeed him. Popular and effective, he is one of the better-documented medieval emperors. He also reclaimed several rebel states: Postumus's Gallic rebel state, Egypt, and Queen Zenobia's Palmyra.
Supposedly his own secretary, fearing retribution for some error, circulated a bogus list of officers slated for execution amongst the soldiery, prompting the officers to assassinate Aurelian.
