IS a static number, despite the fact that the
Earth's distance from the Sun differs during
aphelion and
perehelion. The AU is based on the mean Earth-
Sun distance, and is exactly equal to 149,597,870.691 km.
It takes light just a little more than eight and a half minutes to travel this distance in a vacuum.
