Formative influence on the Beatles. Astrid (and her boyfriend, Klaus Voorman) met them in Hamburg while they were playing on the Reeperbahn. She took most of the professional photographs of them from that era. When they left Hamburg, the fifth, Stuart Sutcliffe, stayed behind and was engaged to her until his untimely death.

She created the Beatle moptop haircut, introduced them to the collarless suits, and remained in contact with the band throughout their careers.

Sources vary on Astrid's name. Cynthia Twist, John's first wife, who knew Astrid, lists her name as "Kirschner". Maybe it's a translation thing.
