Arma virumque", the two themes of that
poem. (Many
scholars say that the
arms correspond to the
Iliad, while the
man corresponds to the
Odyssey, so that
Vergil is claiming to have incorporated the ideas of both Iliad and Odyssey into his poem. There are good reasons for accepting this interpretation.)
