I enter it tentatively, morning,
sinew first, fists up, wishing for whiskers to probe the edges.
Gentleness is more crucial than ever: there is a layer of violence
just beneath my skin
(our skin. Do you feel it? Noose-like all over).
It leaves no trace,
this violence of economics and ideology,
that accost the sunrise itself every time
it climbs up to reflect on us.
