City in New Haven County, Connecticut, roughly 10 miles west of the city of New Haven. Population roughly 18,000. Zip code 06401. Principal industries include brass and copper.

Founded in 1844 by metals merchant Anson G. Phelps, who was looking for a factory site. The town incorporated in 1893.
