Republican euphemism for "racist, sexist white guy". During the early-to-mid-1990s, such characters liked to claim that white males were the most discriminated-against minority in history, conveniently overlooking Blacks, women, Jews, Hispanics, Asians, LGBTQ+ people, and, in fact, every other minority group on the planet.

It stemmed largely from a feeling of helplessness during a period of economic instability, from a radicalization of the American right-wing, and from an upsurge in American racism (on all racial lines).

The most beloved leaders of the Angry White Males were Pat Buchanan, Jesse Helms, Newt Gingrich, Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and David Duke.

Angry White Male

A man whose experience of privilege is completely at odds with what he is told his experience of privilege is. It is a response to the widespread assumption that because all of the people in power are men (inaccurate, but we'll let that slide for the nonce) it therefore follows that

  1. All men are powerful
  2. Powerful men act in the interest of all men, not just those of powerful men

These men are not, in fact angry; they simply refuse to apologise for being both male and white.
