AMNON
(am' nahn) HEBREW: AMNON
"faithful"
_______________
David's firstborn son, Amnon was born to Ahinoam, a woman of Jezreel, soon after David became king of Judah (c. 1000 B.C.). He is known only for his uncontrollable desire for his half sister Tamar. Pretending to be ill, he lured her to his room and raped her. Immediately his lust turned to revulsion and he cast her off. Tamar's full brother Absalom, enraged by Amnon's crime, patiently waited two years for an opportunity to take revenge, and then had Amnon murdered while the prince was merrymaking at a sheepshearing festival.
