(Carduelis tristis) Lives across nearly all of the continental United States. The male is bright yellow with black cap and white rump. White edges of black wings and tail. The female (and male in winter) is olive-yellow with no cap

Habitat is shrubby, grassy areas, orchards, and meadows.

It's song has been described as "a prolonged jumble of short trills and thin twittering notes."
