Beginning in 1894, Northcliffe bought or founded several daily newspapers, which he ran with singular success, using the principles of modern popular news journalism.

Among his newspapers were the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror. In 1906, he also bought the prestigious Times of London. Despite his many publications, his political influence remained limited.
