A feminine form of the name Alexander, which is from the Greek Alexandros, which literally means "defender of men."

Queen of the United Kingdom from 1901 to 1910, consort to King Edward VII.

She was born on 1 December 1844, the eldest daughter of the future King Christian IX of Denmark. She married Edward, the Prince of Wales, on 10 March 1863. She was very popular in Britain, and bore with Edward's mistresses patiently. She instituted the Imperial Army Nursing Corps.

Queen Alexandra died on 20 November 1925. They had three sons and three daughters; their second son succeeded as George V.
