This historic dock on the River Mersey has for many years been an important part of Liverpool. While it is no longer an important shipping and military port, involved in slave trading and cotton and tobacco, it still maintains firm links to its illustrious past.

The many warehouses around the dock have been converted into a shopping centre, luxury flats for yuppies, and a hotel. The Mersey River Festival is still held here every year, and there are many other naval events (for example the Tall Ships a few years ago and the visit of the H.M.S. Invincible two weeks ago).

Next to the Albert dock is the Coburg dock, but that is less important, and further away is Brunswick dock. On the other side, to the North, is Pier Head, where the famous Mersey ferries depart from.
