shield or
cross-shaped
guards
worn on the
shoulders from the latter part of the 13th to the middle of the l4th
century.
They were held in place by
laces and were usually
decorated,
frequently with the
coat of arms of the
wearer. No
example of this
defense is known to be in
existence.
