AHIJAH
(ah hi'jah) HEBREW: AHIYA
"Yah(weh) is my brother"
_______________

A prophet from Shiloh, Ahijah lived during the reigns of Solomon, Rehoboam, and Jeroboam. He predicted that the kingdom of Israel would be divided and that Jeroboam the son of Nebat would become king of the larger portion. When he met Jeroboam on a road outside Jerusalem, the prophet tore a new garment into 12 pieces and gave 10 to Jeroboam with the announcement that God would "tear the kingdom from the hand of Solomon, and will give you ten tribes" (1 Kg. 11:31). Years later, by then old and blind, Ahijah prophesied the downfall of Jeroboam's house and the death of the king's son Abijah.
